27 Personnel Deployed to Handle At-Risk Trees at Arsa Park

A total of 27 joint personnel from Thousand Islands Public Infrastructure and Facilities Handling (PPSU) and Technical Work Unit (UKT) 2 were deployed to handle at-risk trees at Arsa Park, RT 01/01, Pulau Untung Jawa Urban Village, South Thousand Islands Sub-district.

This measure is part of mitigation efforts to ensure residents' safety

Head of Untung Jawa Island Urban Village, Muslim, explained that the work involved pruning and partially cutting down trees deemed hazardous. The sea hibiscus trees are estimated to be hundreds of years old and show signs of decay.

"The condition is already fragile, with many branches breaking and falling. This measure is part of mitigation efforts to ensure residents' safety," he said on Tuesday (4/21).

Muslim noted that the trees, standing about 18 meters tall with a diameter of around 30 centimeters, also posed a risk of damaging nearby kiosks if they were to fall, especially during extreme weather.

"The work is being carried out manually using basic equipment such as chainsaws and axes. Personnel are working with available tools to ensure the trees are handled safely," he added.

He expressed hope that the effort would improve environmental safety while raising public awareness of potential hazards.

"We urge residents to immediately report any at-risk trees or hazardous conditions in their surroundings," he stressed.

Meanwhile, RW 01 head in Untung Jawa Island Urban Village, Muhammad Zaelani, appreciated the quick response from local authorities in addressing residents' concerns, noting that the condition of the trees had long been a source of worry, especially during heavy rain accompanied by strong winds.

"Residents now feel safer, especially since this area is also frequently visited by tourists," he added.
